Yesterday I went out with my brother and another friend. We were hungry and we didn't know where to go as most shops and restaurants were closed (public holiday). So we decided to go to Geylang, as we were hungry plus we were craving 'Ambuyat', a Bruneian local delicacy and Hjh Maimunah is the closest thing to home-cooked food.
YUM!!!! (: I was so content and happy that I just couldn't stop smiling after lunch (:
'Lemak Pucuk Ubi' or Tapioca Shoots in Coconut Gravy is my favourite! (: We usually have this vegetable with ambuyat. So that satisfied my cravings (:
Then we walked around the Malay Village and look what we bumped into in the heart of the Malay Village?
'Kuda Kepang' performance in progress. So we stopped by and watch the performance. Kuda Kepang is a Javanese traditional horse trance dance. Usually the dance is accompanied by a gamelan ensemble. I only saw this dance live once during Ira's wedding back in 2009. So we were kinda hooked up

When I saw this performance, I didn't really understand what the story does the dance telling, so I did a little bit of research (: Apparently, it is a re-enactment of the tale of 9 Muslim evangelists who rode on horseback and also dramatization of the stories of the battles waged and won for the cause of Islam..The dance was pretty mystical and mysterious. I like the sound the gamelan makes.
They say, when the dancers perform this Kuda Kepang dance, they will go into trance, not able to remember what happened during the dance and not able to feel pain. Mysterious..Don't you think so?

Consumer Association of Singapore (CASE) - review
Today is week 4 and it is e-learning week for DCX133. Our task this week is to explore the CASE website and do a write up by answering questions that has been posted in BB. We are also asked to look for an article on product recall for the past 2 years (2009-2011) and comment on their procedure.
Here goes..
When I first visited the CASE website, i thought it would be boring as there are sooo much words and it doesn't look interesting at all because it was so blue and white..=S
Nonetheless, when I explored more into the website, it was not boring at all. The website is so full of information for consumers like you and me (: Basically CASE is there to inform and educate us on fair and ethical trade practices. They are the ones to turn to when we have unresolved disputes with retailers. They will be there to mediate and solve these disputes and put both parties at a win-win situation. We can complaint through phone or fax, and they're actually quite savvy too..Do you know that you can submit your complaints through online submission?? Cool huh? But, that would take long..
So yeah..today I have learnt quite a lot about CASE..now I know who to complaint to if I have problems with my purchasing :) no..don't go to your friends, they can't do anything..go to CASE!

The Evolution of Cameras
Instant cameras are making their way back! It can be seen everywhere youngsters are carrying fat squarish cameras, snapping pictures everywhere they go. Cameras have evolution-ize, it's just simply amazing!
I remembered my first camera (: I bought it with my own money when I was in Primary 6 back in the late 1990s (: I was very proud of it! I can't really remember how it looked like and I can't even remember what brand it was (either Kodak or Konica), but I remember it was silver in colour. The camera was not even digital..it was the kind where you have to load in films, snap snap and get the films developed before you can see the pictures.
And remember the once-upon-a-time-uber-famous Polaroid I-zone? It was the hippest camera during my time..(: I begged my mum and dad to buy me this camera day and night and they did (: but boy oh boy..the films cost more than the camera. i think it was about $30 for 10 strips of films. erk! So this was my first instant camera (: Unfortunately, I didn't really how to set this camera then. I didn't really know what the symbols stands for..I just snapped randomly, usually the picture turned out fine..
Then my dad bought the bigger Polaroid camera. Which looked something like this:
I stopped using these cameras as i was unable to find the films. Looked everywhere, in Brunei, Singapore, nowhere to be found. Sadly, in 2008, Polaroid has announced that the company has decided to cease the production and withdraw from analog instant film products completely and i only found this out a couple of years ago. ):
and I missed these cameras..aahh..the memories and joy that beautiful pictures bring..
But fret no more! Fujifilm has continued the legacy of instant cameras and films and I have been eying for them for quite sometime now..(: I am very tempted to buy one now but i'm still waiting, still contemplating.
Maybe I should make use of my Consumer Education knowledge yes?

Comparative Study Project - Magazine
One of our assignments is to do a comparative study on five different brands of an assigned product. My group, Jit, Absa, Justine, Angela and me, have decided to compare the different ice-cream places around Singapore.
We are required to write up our study in a form of a magazine review article and include rating scheme that we use to evaluate the ice-creams.
So far, we have gone to 3 different ice-cream places.

Ice Cream Chefs @ East Coast Rd |
U.d.d.e.r.s. ice cream @ Siglap |
Island Cremery @ Serene Centre |
We all have come to agreement that, so far, our favourite is Island Creamery! They have unique flavours such as Teh Tarik, Burnt Caramel and Pineapple Tart..I love the coconut ice-cream, it's rich and a little bit salty and sweet..quite interesting.
We have 2 more places to compare so stay tune...
